Commenting on others blog is smart way of getting link back to your blog. But, how does you benefit from getting more comments on your blog ?

I have been trying to find that out how does getting more comments on your blog help you earn more money directly and indirectly.

Is it more beneficial to get more diggs, more twitter follower, more stumbler or more comments on your blog ?

Are they equally important or getting more comments on my blog is someway related to getting more diggs ?

Problems of more comments:
1. Lot of time in moderating them if you get lot of comments
2. If you do not moderate, you may get many junk comments.
3. Many blogger may feel bad when they get rude comments. Specially the new blogger who are sensitive in initial blogging period.
4. When there are lot of comments, the page takes hell lot of time to load completely if comments are not paginated.
5. Most of the commentators comment hoping to get a link back. Nothing wrong in it though, but what does the blogger gets in return ? some ego boost ? Most probably, it will not pay bills.
6. There is always a CONTACT menu, if some one wants to tell the blogger something important. Contact is one of the ways to communicate with the blogger.

Benefits of Comments getting more and more comments
1. You have a good number in X Comments to show off with each post in the blog.
2. Some people say, it will help crawl the post as it gets new comment.
3. Comments help readers to participate in the blog.
4. Comments shows off the popularity and large reader base of the blog.

So, according to me, large comments on a blog post does help boost one’s ego and may inspire to write more quality posts. But I do not see any tangible material gains instantly.

Instead of trying to get more and more comments, most probably, trying to get more diggs, or RSS subscribers would be more beneficial. Email subscribers can be thought as assets of a blog.

More diggs may bring up the post at the first page of digg and one may expect a boost of visitors. Also, digged articles are crawled faster by search engines.
