Recently, I made a mistake which I realised after a month, but nothing could be done to rectify the mistake, at least for another year! I thought I would share my mistake here. I would call, it was my stupidity.

Recently, I sold a banner ad to a company in a blog where I was using a Google AdSense! I always liked drect advertisement as I felt, these looks better on a website and gives a feeling of important website for visitors! How wrong I was!

I removed Google AdSense and put the ad banner. After one week, while checking my Google AdSense earning, I realised, my earning has gone down drastically and the banner ad was not compensating me enough! The losses for a year from Google AdSense would be far higher than the total earning by the banner ad!

So, my lesson is, never jump into selling direct advertisement which earns you less than Google AdSense.

So, this was my stupidity. I am never going to repeat the mistake again and also, will never take offer which is pays less than my current earning from Google AdSense from the same space and area.

During initial stages of starting blogging, I found many ideas and thought those are niches which I should start immediately. With much enthusiasm and optimism, I booked domains one after another for each of my topics, installed WordPress, Googled a lot for ‘Best WordPress Theme’ and installed many plugins. Also, I installed Google Analytics, Email Subscription option, Subscriber count etc.

After that I started writing few posts for all the blogs. Some time even two or three posts. But soon enough, ideas for new articles started o dry up and gap between posting new articles have gone up. Checking Google Analytics daily for visitors, search keywords did not exactly generate many optimism or enthusiasm. Within two months or so, 90% of those ‘niche blogs’ which I thought would grow big were almost orphaned. I have started finding many reasons for not being able to write new, good article in those topics. I have even stopped feeling bad that I wasted some money, considerable amount of time in searching for Theme, plugin etc. for those blogs.

After four months or so, I was left with only 3 blogs which were getting updating once in a month. Rest were all orphaned and I could not gather enough enthusiasm or motivation to start them again. Wastage of money, time and optimism!

I think, many blogger must have experienced the same during their initial period of blogging. Here are the lessons I learned from my misadventure :-

1. Do not rush things. Idea on two or three articles about one topic ( niche or other wise) is not a reason to book a domain related to the topic and start a new blog. Note down the idea on the article, store it and give some time to sink in before jump start.

2. Getting visitor, optimizing for search engines, all need hard work, patience. Never to forget that, Rome was not built in a day. If we can not think of putting up at least 100 article a year ( which makes minimum 6 articles a month, once a week), then I should not expect visitor as well as any earning from blog.

3. Blogging has lot of potentials and is very vast. One needs lot of time to explore it. If one does not have enough time, one should only consider blogging as leisure, hobby. Nothing else.

That is the story of my initial days of blogging, how was yours ?

Do you always write good, very informative, well researched article ? Or do you think you are unable to post or update your blog in search of good article ?

Most probably, you should think again and start posting something, not-so-good article some times, or may be completely out of your niche, something personal or a breaking news!

1. What is your normal food ? I am quite sure it is not always a 7 course dinner or lunch in a 7-star deluxe hotel. Sometime you eat fast food from McDonald too! Think your posts as your food! Compare your 7 course lunch of dinner as those awesome article you write and think those light, not so good article and post them.

2. Anything which is easily available, are in abundant supply, start losing its value. For example, in North East part of India, till 1940s, salt was not easily available. Salt was supposed to be as valuable as gold, and was used by only kings, nobles and few rich people. Normal people used something produced from banana trunk as alternative to salt. But once salt was easily available after British came to India, it lost its value!
Likewise, if you start posting valuable and good articles all the time, it may lose it values as it would be very abundant in your blog! So, in order to preserve values of ‘good articles’, control their supplies!

3. If you post a light article, it is possible that few readers would send you feedback that your quality of writing has gone down, etc. Be happy to get such feedback. You are at par with your readers and your readers are really good ones who like quality articles. So, you know how to write better.

4. Using light articles, you will prove that you are a human. So many new blogger or newbie readers would be encouraged to approach you which they might have been hesitating after reading your imposing, high quality authoritative articles. So you would start connecting with normal readers as well as new blogger.

5. Finally, it may not be possible for you to write good article all the time, after reading this post, do not be disheartened, condole yourself that, it is normal thing to write some light articles once in a while!

There is actually no easy way to earn online. One may find many websites to guide a newbie thousand of easy ways to earn online, but implementation of those “easy ways” takes lot of hard work.

Some myths I have realised over last 8 months of starting this blog:-

1. I thought, I would make at least $100 n one year’s time by writing about my experience in earning money. But it does not seem to be happening. Its is my eighth month of blogging on this site, and my total earning is less than $10. I do not see how this site will be earning another $90 in next 4 months.

2. I tried to write at least 5 articles a month, and I think I have achieved that more or less. I have also tried to write original articles which also I have achieved so far. Though I have taken help from many blogs, websites, read many articles, but I tried to write my own experience and my own thinking.

3. Though I have broken into top 1m rank in alexa.com, and thought that once I achieve that my earning will go up, but that did not happen.

4. Many people may say, I have gained experience, but I think what will I do with experience if I am unable to convert that experience to money! Also, every thing should be measurable, experience must be measured in terms of money.

Finally, I must confess one thing! I actually never thought I would make some money from this site www.bloggeradda.com! But as I made $9, without actually trying to make money, I think if I really try to make money from this site, I might end up making money!

Next time, I may post my experience of making money with this blog!
