So, does length of title of blog post play any role in terms of search engine optimisation ?
Title of any post is normally read by any visitor and that may entice the visitor enough to read the complete article, post a comment! But, how about a search engine crawlers who would anyway crawl the whole article once it indexes the page ?
Search engine takes title of the article very seriously and considers words in a title tag as important keywords. So, it is important that title of a post be constructed not only attracting visitors point of view, but also SEO(Search Engine Optimisation) point of view!
Number of words or length of the title is very important. If it is too long, search engine may find it spam and ignore the whole article and may even penalize the website! Users of WordPress blogging plateform should be more careful about title of a post, as it creates a URL as per the title of the post! That is if one is using “permalink” accordingly.
Number of words in a title should be maximum 7 or 8 words excluding “and”, “a”, “to”, “the” or prepositions! Under no circumstances, a title should have more than 12 words! It does not look nice on the blog and search engines too do not like them.
Title pages should have few important keywords and the article must also contain those keywords. Also article should use few variants of the same keywords in the title.
So, proper title with proper length would help getting the article crawled faster by search engines and would help rank the the website better. More visitors will result in more revenue for the website or blog!

There’s also a thin line between getting your keywords into the title tags and having a worthwhile title to attract visitors. There’s definitely a debate to which one is more important.

Great Post. I have always wondered about what is the right length of a post title.

I agree with you, because what you want is people knowing what your post is about.
Liked your article.

I totally agree with you in this one. Also you must place your keywords in the first part of your title like “Keyword – How to get it right”. Appreciate you insights.

I’m not sure that the length of the title impacts SEO very much. It may add a little but in my opinion, which is based on my personal experimenting, the real key to SEO is based on the quality and uniqueness of your content, the number of quality back-links your site has and how much visitor activity your site has … at least as of the June 2010 release of Google’s new search algorithm called Caffeine.
Like I said though, that’s just my 2 cents and may only be worth that much
Either way, it’s checking the SEO value of seemingly insignificant items such as title length provokes additional thoughts like would nesting tables beyond a certain depth negatively affect the SEO rank?
Like I said… your post creates interesting and provoking thoughts.
Thanks

the more comments on your blog the better. Google will pick you out of the crowd, the more comments you have. So, encourage your readers to leave comments! Great tips!

Well yeah, just like Jim Miesch said, I too have doubts whether the length of title affects much of SEO. Well, maybe in a way that if you make titles too long, readers may not take interest in it… lol. Another thing I can add is that a unique and good content also plays an important part in search engines like Google. As I’ve heard, Google doesn’t give much attention to duplicate content. And google does pay attention to original ones. You also don’t have to worry about someone duplicating your content as Google knows which ones are older and credits them well if their content is being copied by others…
